Since 1977, Prof. Alain Gilbert has developed his experience of Obstetric plexus repair at the Hopital Trousseau and the Institut de la Main. During this period more than 3300 patients have been seen. Over 700 had a plexus repair and several hundreds had secondary procedures on the shoulder, elbow and hand.

Since 1978 Prof Ezio Morelli at the Legnano Hospital (Italy), following the experience of Prof. Alain Gilbert in Paris, has developed the programme of early surgical treatment of obstetrical plexus repair; this came after the microsurgical treatment of traumatic brachial plexus in adult patients started in 1973. Until then, hundred of patients had been operated only with secondary procedures. Prof. Morelli had been since the beginning supported in the obstetric plexus experience by Dr. Maurizio Petrolati and by Dr. Piero Raimondi. At the present time, after the retirement of Prof. Morelli,, Dr. Petrolati continues the programme as Chief of Department of Plastic ad Hand Surgery in Legnano Hospital while Dr. Raimondi moved to Policlinico Multimedica in Milan as Consultant for obstetric and traumatic brachial plexus lesions. The overall number of obstetrical plexus repairs consists of more than 300 cases; in addition to these, as many have been operated with secondary procedures on the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
More recently Dr. Raimondi has started, for the obstetrical plexus treatment, a cooperation with Dr. Santos Palazzi in his Department in Centro Medico Teknon in Barcelona (Spain).
